The race header
| You see | It means |
|---|---|
| 2010m | The distance, in metres |
| Turf | The surface: turf (grass) or dirt/all-weather |
| Right-handed | Which way round the track goes |
| Good | The going: the state of the ground |
| 8 runners · Prize | Field size and total prize money, a quick sign of the level |
| Weather | Now and the days ahead. Rain softens the ground |
| Show track info | A short description of the course: shape, straight, hills |
The runner line
| You see | It means |

| 1 · Poor gate | The starting stall, and how that stall has done here (article 8) |
| #1 | The saddle-cloth number. Often not the same as the gate. Bet by name |
| ALMAQAM (GBR) 5yo | Name, country of birth, age and sex |
| 58kg | The weight carried today |
| OR 122 | The official handicap mark. Not our rating |
| Midpack / Closer | Where the horse usually races (article 6) |
| by LOPE DE VEGA | The sire. Hover for the offspring profile (article 7) |
| Trainer · Jockey | Hover either for their statistics (article 7) |
| Exp: 146 | The expected rating for today (article 9) |
What do people get wrong?
They read OR as our rating. OR is one number per horse, set by each country's handicapper. Our rating is one number for each run, on one scale for every country.
